Oahu Spay & Neuter Program

Our spay and neuter program has stemmed from the need for affordable spay and neuter procedures.  We have carefully researched the available options on Oahu, and have developed this program to address the need.  While we may be an affordable alternative, we want to stress that our uncompromising standards for patient safety and quality of service are state of the art.

What really is spaying and neutering?

puppy imageThe term SPAY in both cats and dogs means a complete ovariohysterectomy.  Both ovaries and uterus up to the cervix is removed during an abdominal surgery.  This surgery can be demanding on overweight and large pets.

The term NEUTERING in dogs and cats refers to the removal of both testicles so that reproduction and hormonal influence is eliminated.  Generally this is a shorter, less complicated procedure unless one or both testicles are still retained in the abdomen.  To locate and remove them can also be difficult and demanding and is not usually covered in a reduced cost sterilization program.

As both surgeries involve full general anesthetic, complications can occur.  (Some complications are as severe as death, on an otherwise healthy pet.)   This is why at Kahala Pet Hospital ALL necessary precautions are taken to eliminate any potential risk.  A list of these precautions are shown below.

  • Pre-Surgical Examination
  • Pre-Anesthetic Blood Profile
  • Intravenous Catheter
  • EKG, Blood Pressure, Oxygen Saturation, and Temperature Monitoring
  • Overnight Nursing Care
  • Intravenous Fluids and Pain Management
  • Post-Surgical Recheck Exam and Suture Removal

Remember that we want to act as your trusted advisors in minimizing health risks associated with your pets.  Not all pets may need these procedures.  We’d be happy to discuss your  specific situation.

Prices start at just $225.00!!

Client Testimonial:

“I took my dog to Kahala Pet Hospital to have her spayed and the entire process was amazing. My dog is a member of the family and we had never spent a night away from her. From our first appointment Dr. Leadbeater was kind and patient. My dog is border collie, I was concerned about hip displasia and some other health issues, Dr. L made sure to do a complete blood work-up, x-rays and he called right after the surgery to let me know how everything went. Our beautiful girl came out happy and healthy. In fact you cant even see a scar from the surgery. But the most telling part is that she loves going to the vet, which tells me she was treated with loving kindness. Dr. L and his team are amazing!”
